Mamadou kelly - Elegy for Diougou Sidibe
This is a protest song, a griot’s message that the murder of Diougou Sidibé was a horror and that slavery must end throughout the world.
Mamadou Kelly was shocked by the injustice of the murder of Diougou Sidibein July 2022 and composed this Elegy to remember and honor her. It is a protest against slavery and the treatment of women.
<<On the occasion of the International Day for the Remembrance of the Slave Trade and it’s Abolition, we return to a tragedy that took place in Mali.
The assassination, at the end of July (2022), of Diogou Sidibé in Lany Mody in the region of Kayes, in the west of the country, came indeed to recall the condition of those who are still called "slaves by descent".
This 71-year-old lady was indeed killed in sordid conditions because she was in conflict with women from her village who considered themselves her mistresses. These, with the support of their husbands, had forbidden her to cultivate her field given "her rank of slave".>>
